Andraž and Kristian are already in Douarnenez, France, where the season 2007 has started. Tomorrow (June 7th) Andraž Mihelin will be competing on the 200 miles of Trophee Marie Agnes Peron onboard Adria Mobil 510. Judging by teh results of this season the forces to be reckoned with this year are: Isabelle Joschke, Peter Laureyssens and Yves Le Blevec. Sadly Kristian Hajnšek is not on the list of competitors, as he is still recovering from a serious injury of the shinbone which occured in January of this year. He will open the season on the Mini Fastnet with Pierre Yves Moreau on June 17th.
The boats Adria Mobil 509 and 510 are 100 kilos lighter after the changes they made in the winter. The main weightloss is due to a new mast and PBO rigging. Hence the keel is 30 kilos lighter and has a 5 degree wider angle compared to the last season. The Li-ion batteries are light as a feather (20 kilos as opposed to the old ones which weighed 60 kilos). They have increased the water balasts for 20 liters and improved the system for filling and emptying. Besides this the boats have new electronics, new rudders and ofcourse new sails. In Douarnenez the boats completed a stability test and despite 100 kilos less the boats are 8% more stabile than last year.
Kristian and Andraž have been in France for ten days. They put the boats together in Lorient and did the transfer to Douarnenez with Phil Sharp (who will be Andraž’s crew for the Mini Fastnet) and Vid Jeranko (their sailing coach). After the first sailing both skippers are pleased with the renovation of the boats and eagerly await the start of the season.
